To celebrate 100 years of Surrealism on October 15, 2024, I am unveiling my collection of 100 frescoes ‘Statua Fluida‘.
These images would certainly have fascinated the Surrealist artists of the last century: I dedicate them to Salvador Dalí, André Breton, and Man Ray.
Created in June and July 2023, these frescoes emerged using the exquisite corpse technique (a collaborative drawing technique) with OpenAI’s generative AI, DALL·E 2.
Starting with an initial square image, I expanded each fresco downward through successive drawings, in the manner of an exquisite corpse game, requiring the AI to harmonize its drawing with the pixels at the edge of the previous image. The process is visible in the photos of my Pensieve.
For each drawing, I used the ‘Statua Fluida’ prompt, a poetic sentence I crafted that intertwines the human, statuary, and liquid in a metaphorical dance. The first drawings created with this prompt are displayed in my Machine Room.
This prompt creates a space for the AI to explore our collective unconscious, generating fluid, sensual, and surreal forms that go into the themes of desire, metamorphosis, and life.
The largest fresco, ‘Statua Fluida #69,’ measures 750 cm in height and 42 cm in width, resulting from 18 successive prompts.
Each fresco is available in a strictly limited edition of 3 copies, printed using Epson inkjet technology on Ilford matte 235g paper.
The colored squares at the bottom right of the images are automatic markers added by the AI; they are DALL·E 2’s signature.

Since August 2023, it is no longer possible to draw with DALL·E 2. It has been replaced by DALL·E 3, with which the ‘Statua Fluida’ prompt no longer works.
This collection of frescoes is unique and is part of the history of AI-generated art.
