Photography and me

The high school I went to was located 20 km from the place where the brilliant Nicéphore Niepce invented and took the first photograph in the world, in Saint-Loup-de-Varennes, in 1826.

However, it was only at the age of 30, in 2012, that I bought a reflex camera and decided to integrate photography into my daily life.

I am particularly attached to color and composition, to urban and natural landscapes, as well as to the living beings I encounter. I photograph almost exclusively in vertical portrait format. I round the corners of my photographs with a white vignette to clearly distinguish them from the images I create or transform using AI.

Beyond its memorial and documentary interest, photography forms the basis of my art. It is a medium that I print, cut, display, and rephotograph. This formal search for visual and mental architecture, with multiple temporal and spatial layers, is metaphotography.

My equipment:

  • Sony Alpha 7 SII body
  • Zeiss 55 mm f1.8 lens

AI and me

I encountered AI in 2022. I was immediately captivated by the strange beauty of the generated images. The textual interaction allows for wordplay: I write, and the machine responds with an image.

I am a lover of wordplay. Those of Bobby Lapointe, Oulipo, Les Papous dans la Tête, Jacques Prévert, and Surrealists in general..

Playing with words is an original way to approach the art of prompting. The AI then gains freedom of expression and seems to play in return. It responds to a double meaning in language with a double meaning in visual interpretation. It’s beautiful and fun.

The prompts I use are like invocative formulas for me. The AI draws, and the images appear; the sense of mystery is immense. The process is surprising and exciting, a sort of dialogue where my sensitivity meets that of the machine.

The AIs I use:

  • Dall·E by Openai
  • Firefly by Adobe
